Writing as Meditation Practice
By MFA. Cedar Sarilo Leverett
This 4-week, 90-minute, weekly experiential writing course will help you discover your personal story through writing and reflection. It will assist you in how to know, teach and learn who we are in relation to the activities in our lives that create meaning and connection. Contemplation of different questions and ideas will be shared in discussion to inform connections to self, friends, communities, experiences, and sentiments and pull together a meaningful introduction to a personal story and writing practice. Students participate in free writing, viewing documentaries, and reflecting on the gained insights that evolve the personal story. Developing a writing practice that is not really a journal but a way to enter self-reflection we’ll shape a tale of personal empowerment that we come to know sometimes by Epiphany or by nurturing the leftovers of experiences. We’ll begin to reveal how one can come to know oneself. Seeing that life’s journey and its sojourns produce a personal story, one begins to organize an integrative approach to a practice of new-found awareness and transformation.
